The Best places to Eat in Alma, CO
Alma, Colorado is a gem in so many way (not to mention there is an actual Gemstone named after Alma but thats another day). We have a very small Main Street but there are so many amazing businesses here and I look forward to more of the closed up storefronts evolving into so more in the coming years. For food stops these are my top picks!
Bristlecone Bakeshop: I shout this place from the rooftop to everyone! I have been buying goods from Maggie (the owner) since she was selling loafs from her front porch. She has resurrected a beautiful space on Mainstreet with the most gorgeous antique cast iron fireplace stove and pastries inside. Not to mention the wood floor and interior siding will have you transported to the frontier with a side of croissant. Pro tip: You can place an order ahead for pick up or go early on the weekends as she often sells out. And check her hours because she isn’t open all week as she has a small family.
South Park Saloon: This really is worth a stop. You can’t be in a hurry so just grab a drink and enjoy the community and conversation. The food is good and parking can be tricky. We often call ahead for a take out order on our way into town as their menu is served fairly late and it’s an easy get to the cabin meal after a long drive. Legend has it that the original creators of the Comedy Central show “South Park” would gather here in the early days to write the episodes. I have no evidence to back this up and I don’t think you’ll find any either but love to keep this legend alive. If you pay a visit and watched the show as you drive from Fairplay to Alma along Hwy 9 you will be convinced too as the show intro and the saloon are almost the same.
Ottos Food Cart: The best chicken sandwich in Summit and Park County! No one but myself has awarded this but I crave the Fried Chicken BLT it’s my favorite, the cajun fries are bomb too. We would do long days while building Haute Haus then have this for a late lunch/early dinner and it will keep you full the rest of the day. Wait times can vary but it’s the nicest little food truck stop and enjoy the Main Street and views. You can also walk to the Alma City Park if you have little ones in tow for a picnic in the park. They also have a Brick and Mortar spot in Fairplay.
I will happily update or make another post on the best food spot in Alma as they continue to pop up on Mainstreet but for now this is what we have and you really can’t miss with them!
